I had a very pleasant surprise some days ago to discover I had been awarded the Christchurch Boys' High School Old Boys' Association Te Kura Artistic and Cultural Award.
Geoff Thomas and fellow old boy pushed my nomination through.
This was presented at a full assembly at the school last Friday 12 August and was a very pleasant and warm occasion. The school has changed dramatically since my day. It's roll is half as big again and there are new buildings both in place - including the magnificent new auditorium - and in the process of being erected. The award is a relatively new one, mine is the second in three or so years, the was awarded to the late David McPhail so I am in very good company. I was asked to deliver a short address and here I am trying not to be too boring.
